Should a boy run for Homecoming Queen?

Ann Thomas, 51, Raymond

“I think if he’s not offended and the students want him as the Homecoming Queen, good for him. They’re high school students, and they always want a laugh. And, if no one’s offended, I think it’s great. If he’s happy with who he is, and he’s proud of himself, then go for it.”

Sister Renata Camenzind, 69, Otisfield

“If boys are to be allowed they should have a different title for the contest.”

“I think it’s kind of strange but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. Why wouldn’t he run for King? The student body voted for it and therefore the majority rules.”

Michael Stevens, 47, Standish

“I don’t knock anybody’s right to express themselves because we all have a quirk somewhere in our lives. ‘People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.’ Once they start taking away people’s rights, are we any better than those countries that don’t believe in rights?”

Jeff Lechner, 33, Raymond

“No. Queen should be reserved for the girls and King for the boys. How difficult is it to pick one for each? A queen is traditionally female. Wouldn’t that ruin it for all the girls? If I were a girl, I’d feel pretty bad if one of the boys were picked over me.”

Donald Gadbois, 67, Limington

“I don’t believe boys should take the place of girls. I think boys should go for manly things, not things like Homecoming Queen. Leave the femininity where it belongs. I don’t think boys have the sex appeal that girls do.”
