On Sunday, Nov. 13, the Maine USATF will host the state Junior Olympic and Open Cross Country Championship at the University of Maine at Augusta.

The races will be held in the following age groups: 10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18, Open (19-29) and masters ages 30 and over at five-year intervals.

Registration begins at 8 am and you can register for your race up to 10 minutes before each race. Entry fee is $5. USATF registration is required and will be available.

Runners should bring a copy of their birth certificate, certified baptismal record, passport, or driver’s license to the state meet.

The first race begins at 9 am (open and masters race). The first Junior Olympic race will begin at 10:45 am (girls 10 and under) and the other races will follow at 30-minute intervals. Course maps will be available all day.

The top 20 finishers in each race will receive Jr. Olympic medals. Medals will be awarded in the open races and in each masters age group. Winners will receive a state championship patch.

Waivers will be available for the Maine athletes competing in the New England championship (contact Ron Kelly prior to the state championship).

In Augusta the top 20 individuals and the top 3 clubs in Junior Olympic competition will qualify for the Region 1 championship meet Nov. 20 at Bryant College in Smithfield, Rhode Island. At the Regional meet the top 20 runners and the top three clubs will advance to the national championship to be held Dec. 10, also at Bryant College.

The registration for the regional meet will be $7 and will be collected after qualifying.
