Cape Middle School eighth grader Jeremy Allmendinger finished second place in the Cumberland County Spelling bee held at F.H. Harrison Middle School in Yarmouth Tuesday night. As runner-up, Allmendinger will move on to the state bee in Bangor March 25 if the winner is unable to attend.

The bee winner, a girl from Lincoln Middle School, spelt zucchini correctly after Allmendinger misspelled it. She then correctly spelled padre for the win. Allmendinger was second out of 18 competitors.

Allmendinger moved onto the county bee after winning the school bee last Tuesday night. He took the bee with the word dramatization. Sixth grader Ethan Dininno was runner-up. Twenty-two students competed.
