Seats are open on both the Cape Elizabeth Planning Board and Zoning Board because two residents have resigned before their terms expired.

John Siegfried recently stepped down as a planning board member, and Gib Mendelson has left the zoning board.

Anyone interested in these positions can submit applications to the town council’s appointments committee until Wednesday, Sept. 13. Both positions are unexpired terms lasting until Dec. 31, 2008. Applications are available on the Cape Elizabeth Web site, www.capeelizabeth.com, or through Deb Lane, the assistant town manager.

The appointments committee will review applications and make a recommendation for the seats. The council will then vote on the final approval. The town would like to fill the seats by the end of the year.

The zoning board is a seven-member panel that meets every fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in council chambers at town hall. Workshops and site walks are scheduled as needed. The zoning board interprets and applies state and town zoning ordinances to make decisions.

The planning board is also a seven-member panel meeting every third Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in council chambers. Proposed buildings and developments may require a site walk. The planning board reviews development proposals in regard to local and state regulations.
