The Bonny Eagle girls track team ranked eighth out of 20 teams at Monday’s Class A state championship meet at Bates College in Lewiston. The Scots turned in a solid effort earning 23 points.

Bonny Eagle scorers included Katlyn Gardiner in the 55 meter hurdles (sixth in 9.47) and Melissa Carrier in the 55 meter dash (fourth in 7.52). Katherine Pagano placed third in the mile (5:31.92) and was also third in the two-mile (12:03.42). Lauren Dudley took sixth in the mile. Amber Cronin took fourth in the high jump with a height of 5-0 and Natasha Jamison was sixth with a jump of 4-10.

The girls from Windham ranked 13th with eight points. The Eagles’ Reilly Sullivan finished in the runner-up spot in the 400 meter dash. She was about half a second behind race winner Allison Chamberlain of Scarborough.

Windham’s Cook big scorer

The Windham boys track team took home ninth place honors in the Class A indoor track state championship meet on Monday at Bates College. The Eagles scored 19 points from just two athletes.

Travis Cook accounted for 18 of his team’s total. He took home fourth place in the 55 meter dash (6.79) and he was third in the 200 meter dash (22.99). Cook also was the runner-up in the long jump (20′ 5.75″).

Windham’s other scorer was freshman Patrick Ciez who took sixth in the high jump at 6-0.

The Bonny Eagle boys entered the meet as the defending state champions, but the Scots were hit hard by graduation. They placed 15th with six points thanks to three fifth-place finishes.

The quartet of Tyler Shortsleeve, Jamie Ruginski, Noah Schoneberg and Murphy Doughty took fifth in the 4 x 800 meter relay (8:35.84). Doughty also took fifth in the mile (4:42.65) and Ruginski placed fifth in the triple jump (41′ 3.5″).
