Less than three weeks after accepting the head football coaching position at Scarborough High School, Chris Kempton has resigned.

According to published reports, Kempton wrote a letter of resignation listing several reasons for his abrupt departure. Attempts to reach Kempton and Scarborough High administrators were unsuccessful.

“The players were extremely shocked, surprised and saddened at the sudden resignation of Coach Kempton,” said Amy Wohltje, the Scarborough Football Club high school co-ordinator. “The enthusiasm that coach showed at day one brought in additional players who wanted to sign up in the fall.”

Kempton has 21 years of coaching experience and his most recent position was with Bates College, where he was the defensive backfield and special teams coach. He also coached at Colby College for six years and he has coached at the high school level as well.
