Marshwood Wrestling hosted the annual New England Youth Wrestling Classic on March 31 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Junior wrestlers from Windham and Bonny Eagle were out in force winning several individual championships.

Jacob Turner of Bonny Eagle finished as the runner-up in the consolation finals of the Bantam Division when he was defeated by Lucas Florio of Billerica by pin at 26 seconds.

Robbie Martin of Bonny Eagle won his consolation final match against Nick Hoar of Billerica by a pin at 2:15.

Rafael Mata of Bonny Eagle defeated his teammate Bryce Remington in the consolation finals when he pinned Remington at 55 seconds of their match.

In the schoolboy division, Bonny Eagle’s Troy Severance finshed as a runner-up and Chad Flint also took home runner-up honors.

Nick Cawood earned a schoolboy championship for Bonny Eagle when he pinned John Espinal of Nashua (N.H.) at 59 seconds of their championship match.

Bonny Eagle took home two consolation final wins in the schoolboy division. Nathan Hopkins defeated Tyler Rice of Warwick (R.I.) 5-3 and Ryan Cook defeated Nick D’Entremont of Billerica (Mass.) by major decision, 9-0.

And Bonny Eagle had three runners-up in the schoolboy consolation finals. Kyle Thomas, James Riley, and Nick Adkins all wrestled well and all finished fourth

Bonny Eagle’s Damien Howard placed fourth after dropping a hard fought match to Westbrook Wolfpack member D.J. Breunig in their consolation final bout.

In the novice division, Windham’s Josiah Purves took home a championship when he defeated Biddeford’s Derek Vermette by pin at 1:52 in their championship match.

Christian Coons also earned a championship in the novice division for Windham when he defeated William Dumas of Marshwood, 2-1.

Sam Coons of Windham was the runner-up in the consolation finals of the midget division. He was defeated by Brandon Bowles of Massabesic, 5-0, in a very competitive match.

Windham’s Gabriel Purves finished fourth after reaching the consolation finals.

Windham’s Dillon Henry finished fourth after reaching the consolation finals in the schoolboy division.
