The Cape Elizabeth girls lacrosse team opened the 2007 season with a decisive 15-1 win on Monday at Wells. Jill Smith led the way for the Capers with seven goals.

Also getting into the scoring column for Cape were Rosie Wennberg with two goals and two assists, Haley Stanfield, Annie Skapinsky, Emma Goldbas and Nora Daly all with one goal and one assist and Maggie Darling and Claire Jackson with one goal apiece.

“They stuck to the basics – good passing and catching, aggressive on ground balls, good communication, and patience,” said Cape coach Sarah Kinsella about her squad. “Since we haven’t had a lot of time outside this pre-season, I asked them to focus on fundamentals and to be aggressive. They did a great job with all of that.

“They just need a little more time to get used to each other, as they are a young team. But they started off great,” said Kinsella.
