Gazebo summer concerts

A series of summer concerts are Tuesdays, June 26-Aug. 7 at the gazebo on the lawn of the Gorham Public Safety building, 270 Main St.

The free concerts, sponsored by the Gorham Recreation Department, are 6:30-8 p.m. Concert goers are invited to take blankets, chairs and picnics. Music styles include rock, folk, swing, jazz and marches.

Dates and bands are: June 26, to be announced; July 10, Common Ground Band; July 17, Jim Junkins Acoustic with Ann Sparling; July 24, Chandler’s Band; July 31, to be announced; Aug. 7, Royal River Philharmonic Band.

Gorham Recreation Department and St. Anne’s Church are sponsoring Summer Festival 2007 on Saturday, July 28, with events at 270 Main St., Narragansett Fields, gazebo and St. Anne’s Church, 299 Main St.

The activities include a pancake breakfast at St Anne’s Church at 7 a.m.; Gorham Trails5K road race, 8:30 a.m.; a parade, 10 a.m.; festival with food, crafts, demonstrations, entertainment and games opens, 11 a.m.; Gorham Fire Department chicken barbeque, 4:30-7:30 p.m.; street dancing, 8-11 p.m.; and fireworks. 9:15 p.m.

Mr. Magic at library

A magic show at 9:30 a.m. June 21 opens a summer program series at North Gorham Public Library, 2 Standish Neck Road.

Dennis Labbe, Mr. Magic, will presents the first of three in the summer series with the theme “Get a Clue.”

Book reprint on gunpowder mills

Gorham author Maurice Whitten said recently his book “Gunpowder Mills of Maine” has been reprinted.

Whitten, a retired chemistry professor at the University of Southern Maine, said 1,000 copies of the book, which had been sold out since 1997, are now available.

The book, which sells for $26.95, can be purchased at The Bookworm, 42 Main St., or by calling Whitten at 839-3403.

Damon awarded degree

Kelly Damon earned a master of education degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.

Following the recent ceremonies at Harvard’s Tercentenary Theater and Radcliffe Yard, Damon and her fianca, Greg Caiazzo, hosted a barbecue at their home in Waltham, Mass. Graduation guests included Ruth and George Ayers; Duane, Pam and Elizabeth Damon; and Barbara and William Caiazzo, all of Gorham.

Damon graduated from Gorham High School in 2001.
