The all-stars from South Portland American advanced in the District 6 Little League tournament with a thrilling 4-3 win over Buxton on Saturday.

The game was in doubt until the bottom of the fifth inning when Caleb Elsmore knocked in Brady Foshay with a solid RBI single. The hit was Elsmore’s second double of the game. Buxton was unable to mount a rally to tie the game in the top of the sixth, despite a two-out double by Cole Libby.

The offensive star of the game for South Portland was catcher Brendan Horton, who smoked home runs in the first and the third innings. Weary of Horton’s offensive power, Buxton elected to intentionally walk Horton when he came up again in the fifth, denying him the chance to go for three homers. Horton finished the game with three RBIs.

Jordan Miller started the game on the mound for South Portland, striking out five in just over four innings of work. Sam Leishman came on in relief in the fifth and earned the win.

The win set up an all-South Portland showdown, as American advanced to face South Portland National in a game that was played after the Current’s deadline.
