Cape Elizabeth 48
After a deluge of rain wiped out most of the high school schedule Friday night, Cape Elizabeth took to the artificial turf of Hannaford Field and continued its perfect season with a 48-0 shutout of Greely.
The Capers (7-0), didn’t let the adverse weather conditions change their game plan, taking to the air to score their first three touchdowns.
The Capers opened the scoring against Greely (4-3) with Adam Danielson hauling in a nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jim Bump in the first quarter. Bump and Danielson hooked up for a second score in the second quarter with a 14-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0 in favor of the Capers.
But Bump wasn’t through, after hitting Danielson twice for touchdowns, he tossed a 45-yard touchdown pass to Tom Foden to put Cape up 21-0.
After that score, Cape began to turn up its ground attack. Foden closed out the first half with a 10-yard touchdown run to put Cape up 28-0.
Sean Meagher got in on the fun after the break, scoring on a seven-yard run, while Foden got his third touchdown of the game on a seven-yard run later in the quarter. Brenden Shields closed out the scoring for Cape with a five-yard fourth quarter touchdown.
This Friday night, the Capers travel to Lake Region to face the Lakers (2-5) in a 7 p.m. game. The big game for Cape comes the following Friday night at Hannaford Field when undefeated Mountain Valley comes to town for a game that will determine the top seed in the Class B football playoffs.
