Hello again,

It’s time once again for that portly man in a red suit to visit your household in a few short weeks.

I have a few suggestions for that outdoors person in your life that they probably would love to receive this Christmas.

If you have deer hunters you’re trying to buy gifts for, you might consider purchasing a new scope for them. For most hunting in these parts there are three that I can suggest. On the high price end is a Leupold Vari-X Three 1.5 to 5 power, another is a Leupold Vari-X TWP, 2 to 7 power. These two scopes are a little pricey but worth every penny. The Leupolds take a beating and stand up to the test of time, not to mention the extreme clarity of their lenses.

In the lower price range the only one I can recommend is the Bushnell Banner Wide Angle in 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 power. It’s very clear and very reliable and in most sporting goods shops they retail at only $89.

Have you ever had hunters in your house grumbling because it’s pouring cats and dogs on their only day off to hunt? That’s easy; go get them a rain suit, top and bottoms. I personally have a rain suit by Columbia and friends of mine own Carharrt rain gear, they both work great since deer hunting on rainy days is excellent.

Another great gift is an L.S. Game Grag made by Louis and Laurie Saucier of Porter, Maine. I bought one in October and we used it on serval deer in November. It’s the best $10 piece of hunting apparatus I’ve ever purchased. They work like a deer hunter’s dream. Their Web site is L.S. gamedrag.com and their telephone number is (207) 625-3956.

For wool clothing, a good suggestion is a green and black wool jacket and a pair of solid green wool pants. And why not polish the deal off with a pair of “Muck” rubber boots. This is great deer hunting gear that also doubles as extremely warm ice fishing apparel.

For the ice fisherman you could purchase new traps, an auger or maybe a pack basket or even hooks and jigs.

Well, I guess I’ve spent enough of your money for you, and I hope these suggestions have been helpful.

Until next time, have fun Christmas shopping!
