Pending school committee approval, Josh Longstaff will be the new Gorham High School boys varsity basketball coach.
Gerry Durgin, the Gorham High School athletic director, said in an e-mail on Saturday that he recommended Longstaff to the school committee for the job, though he emphasized that the appointment cannot be confirmed until the committee meets on May 14.
The news was posted on a Maine Basketball Report (mbr.org) message board on April 21.
Longstaff would succeed Kevin Jenkins, who retired after coaching the Rams for 24 years. This past winter, Gorham lost in the Western Maine Class A prelim game to Windham, 42-41 to finish the year at 10-9.
A former Portland High School basketball standout, Longstaff has served as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs for the past three seasons.
