A Standish man was sentenced today in Portland Superior Court to at least three years in jail for attempting to take sexually explicit photographs of children.

James Linscott, 38, of 694 Pequawket Trail, received a seven-year sentence with all but three years suspended for sexual exploitation of a minor. He will serve the sentence concurrently with a six-month sentence for theft. After serving his jail time, Linscott will have three years probation.

Linscott was arrested in September for attempting to photograph children while they were performing “sexually explicit conduct,” according to Capt. Don Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

“We received a complaint from one of the parents of one of the juvenilles,” said Goulet when asked how they caught Linscott. Goulet said the original call concerned two children, but others, both girls and boys, came forward after Linscott’s arrest.

Goulet said Linscott is believed to have contacted the children over the Internet and in person to let him photograph them.
