The Maine Center for Creativity is sponsoring a lecture by Christina Bechstein, an assistant professor of sculpture at Maine College of Art, called “Making it Public: Why Public Art Matters.” The lecture will be at the South Portland Community Center, 21 Nelson Road, on Thursday, July 24, from 7-8 p.m.

Bechstein will give a slide presentation to share examples and perspectives on public art around the world, as well as in her own creative practice.

The lecture will last approximately 45 minutes, at which point Bechstein will field questions from the audience, which will be moderated by Phil Harriman, a Maine Center for Creativity board member. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Bechstein teaches courses in public art, community collaborations and art for social change. She is also a practicing artist.
