The Cape Elizabeth Education Foundation presented its third annual teacher awards at a recent teacher workshop breakfast. Pond Cove Elementary school teacher Debbie Butterworth and Principal Tom Eismeier received the Brownell Award, and middle school nurse Julie Tselikis received the Thompson Award.

Co-president Peter Cary presented the Brownell Award, given in recognition of the outstanding implementation of an education foundation grant, to Butterworth and Eismeier, noting the remarkable teamwork and vision needed to develop and implement Pond Cove’s innovative Math Lab. The Math Lab serves students in kindergarten through second grades, who benefit from specific attention in math fundamentals. Eismeier’s vision and his collaboration with staff were noted as tantamount to the success of the lab, while Butterworth’s energy, passion and love of math have led to immediate results among math lab students.

The Thompson Award is given to honor the work and dedication of teachers and staff members who’ve made a difference in students’ lives. According to foundation board member Nancy Thomspon, Tselikis was chosen for her “compassion, caring and outright love for our kids.”
