Westbrook 8

Gorham 38

It’s been a tough season this year for the Westbrook Blue Blazes.

The Blazes, whose only win this season came via a forfeit over Bonny Eagle, fell to 1-6 on the season with a 38-8 loss at Gorham on Friday night.

Westbrook actually led early on in the contest, thanks to a three-yard first quarter touchdown from Ollie Smith, who also ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-0 Westbrook lead.

But that was all the points that the Blazes would get in the contest as Gorham (4-3) quickly pulled out to a 16-8 lead at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 35-yard touchdown pass from Ben Moody to Jon Day and a 1-yard run from Evan Lambert.

Moody also connected with Doug Woods on a 13-yard touchdown in the second quarter and he also scored a one-yard rushing touchdown for Gorham.

Next up, the Rams will travel to Standish to finish up the regular season against Bonny Eagle Friday night in a 7 p.m. game. The 5-2 Scots come into the game fresh off a 40-0 beating of Portland last Friday night.

Nate Doehler, who scored four touchdowns and passed for another score in the contest led the Scots. Max Alfiero and Joe Davis also had scores for the Scots.

Next up for Westbrook is a Friday night home game against Windham at 7 p.m. The 5-2 Eagles come into Westbrook riding a 5-game winning streak, including a 34-28 win over Cheverus last Friday night.
