BRUNSWICK — The Midcoast Maine Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope coalition will offer free tax preparation and financial literacy training to area residents with a household income of $50,000 or less.
The service is available between Jan. 24 and April 14 in several Mid-Coast towns, including Brunswick, Bath and Topsham.
The coalition is part of a statewide effort to raise awareness about the Earned Income Tax Credit, which can yield up to $4,824 depending on a taxpayer’s income and number of dependents. According to the coalition, about 20 percent of those eligible for the EITC credit don’t claim it.
The free tax preparation services will be held in Brunswick on each Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 24; in Bath on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. beginning Jan. 27. and in Topsham between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Feb. 4 and Feb. 11 only.
The same services will also be held in Richmond and Waldoboro. Services are offered by appointment by calling 373-1140 ext. 275. Locations will be provided when appointments are made.
