PORTLAND — Members of Maine’s growing immigrant and refugee population will talk about their native countries and their transition to America on Thursday, Jan. 22, at King Middle School, 92 Deering Ave.
Jeff Thayer, an attorney at Bernstein Shur and Yarmouth resident, will moderate the event, which is designed to increase cultural and community understanding between immigrants and natural-born Mainers. Audience participation and discussion will be encouraged.
Thayer recently founded and developed a program at Williams College in Massachusetts, where students have a home stay with immigrant and refugee families. Locally, he helped create “The Refugee Experience: from There to Here,” a program at University of Southern Maine.
The Jan. 22 event, which starts at 5:30 p.m., is sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Maine.
