SOUTH PORTLAND — The group advocating for a collaborative, community-based cleanup of the urban-impaired Long Creek Watershed will present a draft of its Watershed Restoration Plan on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 1-4 p.m., at the Sable Oaks Marriott.
For the last year and a half, the Long Creek Restoration Project has been seeking to involve landowners within the 3.5 mile watershed that includes South Portland, Scarborough, Portland and Westbrook.
In December, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ruled that landowners with an acre or more of impervious area may have to get a state permit for individual storm water discharge. However, the restoration project seeks to give landowners a lower-cost option through shared mitigation.
