Gorham Parks and Rec has received a NRPA/USA Football Youth Football grant in partnership with the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA) and USA Football. Each applicant submitted detailed information concerning the state of youth football in their community in order to qualify for money through this competitive process. Both tackle and flag programs were considered for support across the country. Gorham Parks and Rec received funding support for youth flag football in order to provide new equipment, uniforms, and field maintenance. Approximately 100 players participate in the program every fall.

Gorham Parks and Rec was awarded a grant in the amount of $1,000.

“Millions of American youngsters, like those in Gorham weave youth football into the fabric of our cities and towns,” said USA Football Executive Director SCOTT HALLENBECK. “The game brings us together and instills team-first values for the kids who love to play it. USA Football is proud to partner with the National Recreation and Park Association to grant financial help for equipment, uniforms and other needs to keep America’s favorite sport and its character-building qualities thriving.”

“Gorham Rec Dept Flag Football is a new program for us and has really taken off. This grant will help to improve our field opportunities as well as flag belts, footballs and jerseys for these young football enthusiasts we are working with” said Alan Grady, youth sports director for the Gorham Recreation Department. “We are excited to be a recipient of this grant from NRPA/USA Football and look forward to expanding and improving physical activities that take it outside for the kids in Gorham.”
