SUBHEAD-Women’s basketball
Bowdoin’s women’s basketball team closed the regular season last weekend with wins at Wesleyan (63-52) and Connecticut College (76-59) to wind up 20-4 (8-1 in NESCAC play). Against Wesleyan, Jill Henrikson led the way with 19 points. Caitlin Hynes added 15. Leah Rubega had 12 points and 15 rebounds in the win over Connecticut College. On Tuesday, Henrikson was named the New England Women’s Basketball Association and the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association Rookie of the Week. The Polar Bears earned the top seed for the NESCAC tournament and will host No. 8 Williams Saturday at 3 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
SUBHEAD-Men’s basketball
The Bowdoin men’s basketball team also closed the regular season on a high note, beating visiting Wesleyan 72-46 (behind 19 points from Mark Phillips) and Connecticut College 56-51 (as Kyle Jackson had 15 points, including the 1,000th of his career) to finish 16-8 (5-4 in NESCAC play). The Polar Bears wound up with the fifth seed for the NESCAC tournament and will go to No. 4 Colby Saturday.
SUBHEAD-Women’s hockey
The Bowdoin women’s hockey team defeated host Trinity 4-2 Friday thanks to two goals from Katie Herter and 20 saves from Sage Santangelo, then won 3-0 at Trinity Saturday as Santangelo stopped 23 shots. Santangelo was named the NESCAC Player of the Week Monday. The Polar Bears, winners of six straight, improved to 8-10-1 on the season (5-9-1 in league play). Bowdoin will host Potsdam State Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (2 p.m.).
SUBHEAD-Men’s hockey
The Bowdoin men’s hockey team beat visiting Wesleyan 5-3 Friday, but fell 3-0 to visiting Trinity Saturday and is 10-10-2 on the year (7-8-2 in NESCAC play). The Polar Bears close the regular season this weekend with games at St. Michael’s Friday and Norwich Saturday.
SUBHEAD-Track
Bowdoin’s men’s and women’s indoor track teams took part in the Boston University Valentine’s Day Invitational last weekend. The women got a school record from Anne Monjar in the 5,000 meters. Both teams will take part in the New England Division III meet this weekend at MIT.
SUBHEAD-Skiing
Bowdoin’s Nordic ski team took part at the Dartmouth Carnival last weekend and finished 10th out of 13 teams. The Polar Bears go to the Middlebury Carnival this weekend.
