On the left is a building once located at 19 Bridge St., which housed a popular restaurant operated by Sammy Porello. The business was expanded to include a bar and dance area. Porello operated the business for many years as The Army & Navy Bar, Porello’s and Sammy’s Bar & Grill. Locals often referred to the location as “Sammy’s by the Sea.” Porello retired and sold the business in the 1960s. The business changed owners several times and operated under such names as Stubby’s and The Bridge Bar. In the 1970s the building was demolished. On the site now is a platform that overlooks the river.
