Greely relay team comes in first

Swimmers and divers from Forecaster Country took part in the New England championships Saturday at Bates College in Lewiston.
Greely’s boys’ 400 free relay team stole the show as Ian Mecray, Dan Spencer, Patrick Bowden and John Madeira posted a season-best time of 3 minutes, 26.61 seconds.
Bowden was runner-up in the 200 individual medley (2:05.98). Madeira placed sixth in the IM (2:09.26) and was ninth in the 100 backstroke (59.85). Mecray was seventh in the 50 free (23.29).
The Rangers also came in fifth in the 200 free relay (Spencer, Mecray, Kyle Wilson and Bowden, 1:34.76) and were 10th in the medley relay (Madeira, Mecray, Spencer and Wilson, 1:50.07).
On the girls’ side, Greely’s 200 free relay team (Sara Schad, Katie Whittum, Jackie Andrews and Taylor Roach) came in fourth in 1:48.28. The Rangers were sixth in the 400 free relay (Andrews, Whittum, Roach and Schad, 3:58.27) and seventh in the medley relay (Whittum, Franny Martelle, Lizziy Perry and Andrews, 2:05.01).
Individually, Schad was runner-up in the 100 free (56.20) and fifth in the 200 free (2:04.06). Perry came in 10th in the backstroke (1:07.40). Roach placed 10th in the 100 free (58.79) and 13th in the 50 free (26.76).
“We had 11 kids represent Greely at New Englands,” Rangers coach Rob Hale said. “All in all, it was a good day. We swam fairly well, but we could have used another week of practice to be a little sharper. It was fun cheering on other Maine kids who are normally our enemies during the regular season.”
Other results included NYA’s Sarah Kaminow coming in third in diving (285.30 points) and Falmouth’s Sarah Uminski placing eighth in the 100 free (58.17) and 11th in the 200 free (2:10.44)
