CUMBERLAND — A crash that resulted in a fatality just after 1 p.m. Friday has state troopers looking for answers.
Rosalie Muce, 32, of Portland was killed when she was thrown from her red Subaru after slamming into the back of a full-sized van on I-295, Trooper Marvin Hinkley said.
Muce was alone in her car, traveling southbound at mile marker 13, when she struck the van, driven by Larry Milligan, 54, of Buxton. Upon impact, her car rolled over into the median and her body was flung into the northbound right-hand lane. Milligan was not injured in the accident.
Just moments before the crash, a motorist near mile marker 15 called in a complaint that a red Subaru with a license plate number similar to Muce’s was following him too closely and that, once the car had passed, continued to weave through traffic, Hinkley said.
The accident closed traffic northbound and southbound traffic was backed up significantly.
Investigators are reconstructing the crash and have yet to determine a cause. Hinkley said they are following several possibilities but do not believe alcohol was a factor.
