SOUTH PORTLAND — Police are looking for a driver who failed to stop after hitting a pedestrian on Sawyer Road near the Lyric Theatre in Ferry Village.
Police Lt. Todd Bernard said a 28-year-old Portland man was struck from behind in the left leg on Sunday while walking on Sawyer Road, near Crescent Crescent.
The man, who sustained minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital, was thrown to the ground after being hit, but Bernard said the man watched as the vehicle, described as an older, blue, two-door Nissan traveled towards High Street.
“The driver made no attempt to stop,” Bernard said.
The accident was the second car-versus-pedestrian collision in as many days.
On Saturday, March 7, people in the Hannaford Bros. parking lot at Mill Creek got a scare when an 83-year-old woman, Elizabeth Pratt, accidentally stepped on the gas with her vehicle in reverse, causing her vehicle to spin around several times.
Bernard said her car, a 2001 Chevy, reportedly hit five other vehicles and rammed a pedestrian. The pedestrian was treated at the scene for minor cuts and bruises. No criminal charges were filed against Pratt
Police asked anyone with information about the Sawyer Street hit and run to call them at 799-5511.
