TOPSHAM — Paul A. Painchaud, 88, died March 1 at Parkview Adventist Medical Center.
He was born in Biddeford on Jan. 26, 1921, the son of Andre and Fabiola (Morrissette) Painchaud.
He attended the University of Detroit for engineering.
From 1943-1946, he served as a private in the Army during World War II.He married Gisele Bernier in 1947 and moved to Caribou and Limestone, where he aided in the construction of the air force base nearby.
In 1951, they moved to Michigan where he worked in real estate development and public relations.
After moving back to Maine in 1979, he worked at the Officers Club at the Brunswick Naval Air Station until his retirement.
His surviving legacy was serving as the ‘grampa’ in Grampa’s Garden, a business one of his daughters started in Topsham.
He was a very spirited and expressive family man who was happiest in the woods.
He was predeceased by a son, Richard Painchaud, and sisters, Lucille Painchaud, Pauline Painchaud and Madeline Ball.
He is survived by his children, Michael Painchaud of Seattle, Lucille Painchaud of Brunswick, Paula Menzies of Prospect, Conn., and Jacqueline Painchaud of Topsham; his brother, Raynald Painchaud, and sister, Diane Goodwin; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held last week.
