ME Credit Unions raise
$375K for ending hunger
WESTBROOK — The Maine Credit Union League raised $375,297 during its 2008 Campaign for Ending Hunger.
Each credit union will distribute a check to its local area food pantries and hunger organizations. The Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger was started in 1990, and has raised over $3.1 million to fight hunger in Maine.

mCaddie wins
entrepreneur competition
PORTLAND — mCaddie, a mobile application and social network software for golfers, won the Queen’s University Entrepreneurs’ Competition held in Kingston, Ontario, receiving a $25,000 cash prize.
The competition is Canada’s largest international undergraduate business plan competition.
mCaddie was also the winner of the 2008 USM Business Plan Competition and has received grants from the Maine Technology Institute and Libra Future Fund to further develop its software application.

New salon and spa opens
in downtown Portland
PORTLAND — Freeport resident Jennifer Leigh has opened O2, a new salon and spa, at the ground level of the State Theater building, located at 605 Congress St.
The full service salon primarily uses organic products and provides a range of services from a staff that includes an aesthetician, massage therapists, cosmetologists and hair stylists.

Top of the East at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland was named ‘Best Place to Rendezvous’ by Down East Magazine.
Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Cape Elizabeth recognized Jennifer DeSena and Joe Conroy Sr., both of Cape Elizabeth, for outstanding performance in 2008.
At the annual Maine Real Estate & Development Association conference, awards were given to: Richard A. Shinay of Scarborough, Volunteer of the Year Award; Roxane Cole of Portland, Public Policy Award; Bill Shanahan and Jim Otis, both of Scarborough, Presidents’ Award; TD Banknorth, Robert B. Patterson, Jr. Founders’ Award.
At the Governor’s Conference on Tourism, awards were given to Barbara Whitten, president and CEO of the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Greater Portland, Tourism Excellence Award; and Maine Port Authority’s CruiseMaineUSA, Commitment to Tourism Growth Award.
Laura Sosnowski and the Maine Home Connection team at RE/MAX By The Bay in Portland was awarded Platinum Club status by RE/MAX International for outstanding sales in 2008.

New Hires/Promotions
Archna Prasad-Gaur, Ph.D. of Portland has joined the Mental Health Associates of Maine at its office at 465 Congress St. in Portland. 
Abigail Greenfield of South Portland was promoted to director of communications and marketing at Maine Medical Center.
Woodard & Curran has promoted Maria Morrissette of Portland to director of information services.
Jeffrey J. Oldfield of Buxton has joined Bigelow Investment Advisors, LLC, in Portland as vice president.

The Northern New England division of Salvation Army in Portland has hired Harland Goodwin of South Berwick as the planned giving director. 
Alex Greenlee of Brunswick was promoted to the position of assistant general manager at The Gelato Fiasco.

Appointments
Hilda Taylor of Portland has been selected to join The NASCAR Foundation regional advisory committee.
Felicia Garant of Falmouth, an assistant vice president at Spinnaker Trust in Portland, was selected by the Treasury Department to serve on the nationwide Taxpayer Advocacy Panel.
Jamie Kaplan, executive director of The Cromwell Center for Disabilities Awareness in Portland, was named one of 14 inaugural Advanced Leadership Fellows at Harvard University for 2009.

Douglass S. Hoover of Freeport graduated from U.S. Marine Corps boot camp with an expert weapons ranking on March 6 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. After a brief home leave, he will report to Camp LeJeune for two months at Infantry Training Battalion.
