The Freeport Travel Basketball League recently concluded its season with both the Scarborough sixth grade boys and girls winning the league title.

In the boys finals, Nate Wessel’s foul shot with eight seconds remaining in regulation completed a dramatic three-point play to give the Red Storm a 38-37 victory over Brunswick. Earlier in the afternoon, Brunswick had forced a final game by defeating the top-seeded Red Storm 38-33. The boys team finished its Freeport League schedule with a 14-1 record and were 22-2 overall.

The members of the boys team were: Nate Wessell, Sam Freeman, Nick Frizzle, Brandon Watkins, Milani Hicks, Tim Ross, Austin Pemberton, Ben Irish, Matt Gedaro and Ian Corey. The team is coached by Kevin Freeman and Troy Wessel

The girls sixth grade team also won the league championship. This is the second year in a row for this group of girls and third year they have played in the championship game. While maybe not as exciting as the boys game in the end, the intensity was just as visible. The girls beat their rival Lake Region by six points capping off an undefeated 19-0 season. This team is 39-1 over the past two years.

The members of the girls team were: Ashley Briggs, Bailey Adams, Lindsey Thurston, Samantha Sparda, Kaitlin Prince, Sarah Rinaldi and Jamie Sargent. The team is coached by Don Briggs and Doug Adams.
