BROOKLYN, N.Y. —Thomas J. Earls, 84, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Portland, died March 21 at Long Island Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y.

He was born in Portland on Sept. 25, 1924, the son of Michael J. and Delia Ellen (Flaherty) Earls. After graduating from Cheverus Classical High School, he continued his education, graduating from the University Of Notre Dame, Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business, Fordham University’s School of Law and New York University’s Graduate School of Law.

In the 1940s, he was an accountant with Maine Bonding and Casualty Company in Portland. The bulk of his career was spent as a management consultant with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City, where he worked for more than 30 years.

He was a member of The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and The Knights of Columbus.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Surviving are several cousins, including Rita F. Sawyer of Portland, Philip Tracy and John Tracy, both of South Portland.

Memorial services were held last week.
