FALMOUTH — Greater Portland Habitat for Humanity has selected a local “canine of ceremonies” to lead a fundraising walk on Saturday, May 9.
Bear is a yellow Labrador retriever adopted by Falmouth High School senior Kiely Flynn last January during her trip to Mississippi as a volunteer with Habitat. Though homeless and starving just months ago, Bear has gained 20 pounds since coming to live with Flynn and her family.
As an ambassador for the Habitat program, which is just completing its 50th house in Portland, Bear will help the organization announce its new partnership with Planet Dog to raise money for another home in greater Portland.
Each year, Falmouth churches organize the event that brings walkers, riders, bikers and runners together, with or without their pets, to walk down Route 88. This year, the event will begin at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 43 Foreside Road, with registration from 7:30-10:30 a.m. and a complimentary breakfast for registered walkers and supporters from 7-9 a.m. The halfway station is at the Foreside Community Church.
