Mixed results for PBC fighters
Portland Boxing Club middleweight Russell Lamour lost a close and controversial decision to Tracy Rollins of Chicago at the National Golden Gloves last week in Salt Lake City, Utah. On a happier note, Lamour bounced back and won the Region One title last weekend in Lake Placid, N.Y., with victories over the champions from New Jersey and New York. PBC featherweight Liz Leddy also scored a win in Lake Placid. Lamour and Leddy, along with Lisa Kuronya, will compete in the U.S. National Championships next month in Denver, Colo.
SailMaine fundraiser upcoming
Maine’s sailing regatta season will begin June 6 with a fundraiser for SailMaine, a local community program. FMI, 650-2085 or sailmaine.org.
Lacrosse pick-up league starting
A men’s and women’s lacrosse pick-up league will be held Sunday nights from June 7 through Aug. 9 at Deering High’s Memorial Field. Women play from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Men go from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $70. FMI, info@maineelitelacrosse.com.
Sunday lacrosse clinics offered
Cheverus boys’ varsity lacrosse coach Deke Andrew and other top coaches from the area will be hosting weekly Sunday lacrosse clinics from June 7 through Aug. 9 at Deering High’s Memorial Field. The cost is $75 for five weeks or $150 for 10 weeks. The program is a mix of instruction and game play and is open to boys and girls entering grades 2 through 8 next fall.

SMCC golf fundraiser
Southern Maine Community College is hosting its fifth annual athletic department and foundation fundraising golf tournament June 16 at Prouts Neck Country Club in Scarborough. Proceeds help the college’s continued effort to offer one of the best small college athletic programs in New England. FMI, www.smccme.edu/athletics.
Portland Community Rowing offering youth program
The Portland Community Rowing Association is presenting a Learn-to-Row Youth Program for teens ages 14 through 18, as part of its inaugural Recreation Program, June 17 through 20. PAYSA fall recreation program taking registration
Registration is now open for the Portland Area Youth Soccer Association’s fall recreation program, open to boys and girls ages 4 through 12. The fee is $65. Registration deadline is July 10. FMI, paysasoccer.com.
