BRUNSWICK — The communities of Topsham, Brunswick, Harpswell and Bath have a full morning of events planned for Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.

Topsham and Brunswick’s joint parade will begin assembling at the Topsham Municipal Building on Main Street at 8 a.m. The parade will begin marching down Main Street at 9 a.m., pausing on the Green Bridge for a gun salute and wreath throwing. The parade will continue along Maine Street in Brunswick and conclude at the gazebo on the green at the Brunswick Mall.

The American Legion is beginning Bath’s Memorial Day tributes at its 200 Congress Ave. headquarters, opening its doors at 6 a.m. with free coffee and donuts. The various groups performing services at Bath cemeteries that morning – mostly at Oak Grove Cemetery – will leave the legion at 7:30 a.m.

The Sons of the Union Veterans will hold a service at 8 a.m., followed by the Women’s Auxiliary at 8:15 a.m., the Sons of the American Legion at 8:30 a.m. and the American Legion at 8:45 a.m. The Sons of the Union Veterans will lay a wreath at Waterfront Park at 9:30 a.m.

The parade will begin assembling at 10 a.m., starting from the American Legion headquarters at 10:30 a.m. and ending in the area of Library Park. A service will begin there at about 11:30 a.m.

Harpswell will hold its annual parade beginning at 11 a.m. The parade will feature the Mt. Ararat High School Band, old cars, marching units from the local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, an American Legion honor guard, a small equestrian group, bagpiper Donald Duncan and fire engines and firefighters from the Bailey Island, Orrs Island and Harpswell Neck fire departments.

Gathering for the parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Lookout Point Road. The route will proceed south to the Harpswell Historical Society for commemorative ceremonies, a wreath-laying and rifle salutes by members of the Legion Post 171 on the Ewing Narrows Bridge.

The keynote address will be given by Marine Capt. Jonathan Field.
