Bowdoin graduates

Three students from Gorham graduated last month from Bowdoin College in Brunswick.

Samantha Denyse Francis graduated with a major in English and a minor in teaching.

Elissa Anne Gervais graduated with a major in history.

Courtney Rae LaPierre graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude with a major in biology.

The three are 2005 graduates of Gorham High School.

MacKenzie on dean’s list

Daniel MacKenzie has been named to the dean’s list for the spring quarter at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga.

MacKenzie is an animation major and is seeking a bachelor of fine arts degree.

Lord earns honors

Adam Lord earned the distinction of faculty honors for the spring semester at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Ga.

Lord graduated from Gorham High School in 2005.

Happy Fourth

Gorham municipal offices and Baxter Memorial Library will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day.

Art classes in North Gorham

Summer art classes will be held at the North Gorham UCC Church, corner of Standish Neck and North Gorham roads, on three Saturdays, July 11, 18 and 25.

Lucy Ellen Smith is teaching “Drawing & Painting to Learn: Portrait and The Figure.”

Morning classes are 9 a.m. to noon; afternoon classes,

1-4 p.m. Tuition, which includes all three Saturday sessions, is $100; $200 for both morning and afternoon classes.

Registrations and tuitions must be submitted by Friday, July 3.

The class is described as “instructed study of a posed model for portrait or general figure study. Model will be clothed and in the same pose for all three Saturdays.” Students will have the opportunity to focus on anatomy and/or drapery or experiment with different techniques.

The mediums are pencil, pastels, watercolor, oil and acrylic.

Smith has taught drawing at the Art Guru teaching space in Gorham. She holds a bachelor’s degree in art from Otterbein College and has studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art and the Palette and Chisel in Chicago. She has also studied with Richard Halstead in Evanston, Ill., and Daniel Greene in Connecticut.

She is a member of the Pastel Painters of Maine and exhibits in a variety of galleries and shows in New England throughout the year.
