Brunswick — Ruby Marguerite Condon, 84, died from cancer on July 4 with her sister June at her bedside.

She was the fifth child of six born to Hazel and Arthur W. Turner in Frankfort and grew up in Brunswick and Bowdoinham. Her first marriage was to Maurice Ware of Bowdoinham. Later on, she was married to Ralph Spier of Durham until his death.

Her final marriage to Clinton Condon of Freeport lasted 34 years until his death in 2005. She and Clinton enjoyed family gatherings and doing a paper route together.

Living modestly, she never boasted of her family roots dating back to the Mayflower. She was a descendant of Stephen Hopkins and Thomas Rogers, whose signatures are found on the Mayflower Compact.

After dropping out of high school, she worked for various employers, including a bakery, shoe factory, and nursing home. She was highly regarded by her family as a fine cook, although she always claimed she didn’t like to cook.

Growing up, she enjoyed singing folk, hymns, and country songs and playing piano and guitar. As an adult, she enjoyed storytelling, flower and vegetable gardening. Her dogs and cats were a source of pleasure, and she would sign greeting cards to relatives with paw drawings.
