CAPE ELIZABETH — Stanley William Sontz, 68, died at home on June 23.

His wife of 46 years Marlene (Jaffe) Sontz and his loving family were at his side.

On Feb. 12, 1941, he was born in Lynn, Mass., a son of Max and Esther Sontz.

He graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1959.

He was vice president of the Max Sontz Company with his brothers in Lynn, Mass. In 1974, he opened Union Air Conditioning in Portland, where he worked until his retirement.

He dedicated his life to his wife and family and especially adored playing with his grandchildren.

His passion was collecting firearms. A life member of Scarborough Fish & Game, he previously served as treasurer, chief range safety officer, and a board member.

Additionally, he served on the board of the Osteopathic Hospital/ Brighton Medical Center for 18 years and on the Maine Health Osteopathic Heritage Foundation. He was a member of Cape Elizabeth Fire Police since 1992 and recently served as lieutenant.

His other hobby was fireworks. As a licensed pyrotechnician, he assisted LP Murray with fireworks shows and was a member of the Pyrotechnician Guild International and a PGI certified fireworks display shooter.

He was predeceased by his brothers Phil Sontz of Louisville, Ky., Hyman Sontz and Charles Sontz of Marblehead, Mass.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Marlene H. (Jaffe) Sontz of Cape Elizabeth; son Mark and daughter-in-law Mary Sontz of Portland, and daughter Danielle and son-in-law Kevin Little of Carmel; grandchildren, Andrew Sontz, Elizabeth Sontz, Mackenzie Little, and Sophie Little; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sidney and Cynthia Sontz, Harold and Alice Sontz of Swampscott, Mass., and Edith Sontz of Salem, Mass.

Memorial services were held shortly after his death.

Arrangements are by The Jewish Funeral Home in Portland.
