Tony Payne is an intelligent and competent Falmouth town councilor. The issue I have with Payne’s Opinion column has little to do with his opinions themselves, but rather the fact that The Forecaster would agree to give a single town councilor an opinion column at all. Upon even a moment of reflection, it’s clear that this is ill-advised. Unless the opportunity exists for other members of the council to state their views on major, controversial town issues at the same frequency, either this paper should discontinue this column, or Payne should do the ethical thing and withdraw his input.
