AUGUSTA — Olympic women’s luger Julia Clukey of Augusta is ready to speed down the modified course at Vancouver, but she doesn’t think the shortened run will be to her benefit.

Clukey was set to make two official runs Monday and two more later on a track that’s been shortened following last Friday’s training crash that killed a Georgian men’s luger. Clukey says the change doesn’t help people with strong starts, and she’s a strong starter.

Carrabassett Valley’s Seth Wescott in the snowboardcross, and Messalonskee High School graduate Ben Koons, who’s on the New Zealand Nordic ski team, also are competing in Vancouver.

Clukey’s women’s luge teammates include Megan Sweeney and Erin Hamlin. Sweeney, a Portland native, now lives in Suffield, Conn.
