The developers of a renovated apartment building at 645 Congress St. in Portland held a ”grand opening” Monday for city officials and community leaders.
Built in 1895 as a hotel, the building also has served as a dormitory for the University of Southern Maine and Maine College of Art.
The former Portland Hall will contain 56 new apartments as well as retail outlets on the ground floor.
The project is headed by Portland developers Justin Alfond and Greg Shinberg of Bayside Maine.
