Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew W. Emerson, son of Debra Emerson of Scarborough and Raymond Emerson of Windham, recently began a deployment to Afghanistan while assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133, which is based at Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, Miss. Emerson joined the Navy in October 2003.

Marine Corps Pvts. Dustin D. Owen and Seth R. McCallum recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Owen is the son of Donna and Harold Owen of Harpswell.

McCallum is the  son of Miranda McCallum of South Portland  and Dale Plummer of Biddeford.

Army Pvt. Brian D. Peterson has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Marybeth Davidson of Windham and Brian Peterson of Westbrook. Peterson is a 2002 graduate of Deering High School, Portland.

Air Force Airman Killian J. Noyes has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Damon Noyes of Falmouth.

Michael T. Lynch, son of Robert and Patricia Lynch of Portland, was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force at the University of New Hampshire Dec. 18. Lynch received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace Leadership Studies through the ROTC program. He will be reporting to Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio, Texas, for pilot training. Lynch is a 2005 graduate of Deering High School.
