Hulst steps down at NYA

North Yarmouth Academy boys’ hockey coach Kent Hulst, a former Portland Pirates standout, will step down from his position as coach, director of the NYA hockey program and manager of Travis Roy Ice Arena as of April 30. Hulst has accepted a position as the coach of the Portland Junior Pirates juinor ‘A’ team in Saco.

NYA competes at Junior Olympics

North Yarmouth Academy freshman Aldis Gamble competed at the recent Juinor Olympic Championships for fencing in Memphis, Tenn. Gamble qualified by winning the Cadet (under 17-years-old) gold medal and earning the silver in the Junior (under 20-years-old) qualifier for foil in the New England Division (Maine and Hampshire).

Greely baseball holding auction

Greely baseball is holding its annual “Legends of Maine” auction on Feb. 27, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Val Halla Banquet Center in Cumberland. This year’s event features University of Southern Maine coach Ed Flaherty and St. Joseph’s College coach Will Sanborn. FMI, murphpat@maine.rr.com.

Yarmouth seeking coaches

Yarmouth High School is seeking an assistant girls’ lacrosse and a junior varsity softball coach for the spring season. Aditionally, there are openings for junior varsity field hockey, assistant varsity football, girls’ varsity basketball and boys’ junior varsity basketball. Day of Hockey fundraiser upcoming

“A Day of Hockey” to benefit the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital will be held Feb. 28 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. There will be youth games beginning at 7 a.m., a contest between the Southern Maine Law Enforcement All-Stars and the Portland Fire Department at 12 p.m. and a Portland Pirates vs. Albany River Rats contest at 4 p.m. The cost is $12. Running program set to begin

Maine Lacrosse training new officials

The Maine Lacrosse Officials Association (MLOA) needs more officials to support boys’ lacrosse at Maine high schools, middle school and youth events and is hosting a certification course beginning Feb. 28 at the North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) Middle School in Yarmouth.
