Portland Pirates CEO/Managing Owner Brian Petrovek this morning refuted Internet reports he has reached a tentative deal to move the American Hockey League team to Albany, N.Y.

In fact, Petrovek said he remains in negotiations with county officials for a lease extension at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

“I have no deal with Albany,” Petrovek told the Portland Press Herald. “I had a very good negotiating session with the county on Monday, and I need another good day like that.”

Bob Berber, general manager of the Times Union Center in Albany told a newspaper there that he expects to sign a deal with an AHL team within seven to 10 days to move to Albany for next season. Petrovek referred to that as “spin.”

“I wouldn’t know who they have reached an agreement in principle with, but it’s not me,” Petrovek said.

Petrovek, however, wouldn’t comment on whether he has had negotiations with Times Union Center.
