SOUTH PORTLAND – Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Thursday night at 58 Broadway.

South Portland police Sgt. Steve Webster said three white men in their late teens or early 20s entered the home around 7:30 p.m. One was armed with a shotgun. All three wore bandanas across their faces.

Five people were in the home at the time. One of them suffered minor injuries as he struggled to get away, but he did not require medical attention, Webster said.

A laptop computer and several items were stolen, but Webster would provide no more detail.

He said police will not identify the victims or a possible motive while the robbery remains under investigation.

“We don’t believe this house was chosen at random,” was all that Webster would say.

The robbers ran off toward nearby Southern Maine Community College. Webster denied one media report that the campus was locked down.

He said a police dog did track the suspects across the campus.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact South Portland police at 799-5511.
