BANGOR — A judge has found a 32-year-old man not competent to stand trial on charges of cutting a pregnant woman’s neck with a steak knife at a downtown coffee shop in Bangor.
According to the Bangor Daily News, Justice William Anderson ordered Jason Dean committed to Riverview Psychiatric Hospital for evaulation.
Penobscot County Deputy Attorney General Michael Roberts said Anderson will go to trial if, after treatment, he is found to be competent within the next year.
Dean was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault for allegedly entering Java Joe’s coffee shop last March and attacking a woman he didn’t know as she worked behind the counter.
The woman required hospital treatment, but her injuries were not life-threatening.
