PORTLAND — A Westbrook woman has been sentenced to nine months in jail for her role in what police called an adoption scam.
In a plea agreement, Misty Sargent pleaded guilty today to two counts of unauthorized taking. She was originally charged with felony theft.
Investigators said Sargent promised her unborn baby to couples in California and New Jersey and took money from them before giving the baby to a couple from New York.
