SANFORD — Police say an 18-year-old student has been charged with aggravated assault following a stabbing at a high school in southern Maine.

Police said Mitchell Farah of Acton was taken to the York County Jail after he allegedly attacked a fellow student at Sanford High School early Thursday afternoon.

Sanford police said that Farah is accused of confronting the other student in a school bathroom and stabbing him with a pocketknife in the chest and back. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.

The name of the victim has not been released.
