Joanne Dobson is an English professor, having taught at Amherst College and Tufts University. So it makes sense that she writes mystery novels centered around a college English professor, Karen Pelletier.

In the latest Karen Pelletier mystery, “Death Without Tenure,” Pelletier is about to get a tenured position at her university when her rival for that spot turns up dead.

The book came out in January.

Dobson, who lives in the New York City area, will be speaking at Longfellow Books at an event co-sponsored by the Maine Women Writers Collection at the University of New England. For more information, go online at www.une.edu/mwwc.
