The Portland Pirates are holding a benefit for the Center for Grieving Children at Sunday’s game against the Providence Bruins. Youth Alternatives Ingraham will celebrate the Portland Sea Dogs’ return from spring training with a benefit dinner on Tuesday. Proceeds benefit Youth Alternatives’ work with Maine children, adults and families. Anyone who purchases one of the first 200 tickets will dine with a member of the Sea Dogs. The MBR 17U-Townsend boys’ basketball tryout will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland. The cost to attend the tryout is $10. Participants will practice twice a week in the Portland area, with an emphasis on instruction. There will also be opportunities to play games.
