PORTLAND — A basement fire in an apartment building at 169-171 Neal St. left one family homeless Saturday.
Although there was thick smoke throughout the nine-unit building, only one unit was badly damaged by the fire, officials said. Nobody was injured.
Firefighters responded to the fire at 1:33 p.m. Crews used a ladder to evacuate a woman from the second floor.
