AUGUSTA — State energy officials say home heating oil prices are inching up in Maine in reaction to last week’s reports of falling jobless claims and increased manufacturing activity.

The Governor’s Office of Energy Independence and Energy said Monday the statewide average cash price stands at $2.71 a gallon, up 3 cents from a week ago.

Southern Maine had the lowest average price at $2.62 gallon. The highest average price, $2.91 a gallon, was found in northern Maine.

The statewide average kerosene price was $3.07 per gallon, which was a penny higher than a week ago.
